This press-only event celebrating the grand opening of the Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem attraction was filled with a surprising explosion of yellow fun and happiness. True to its source material, the ceremony had no shortage of comedy, gags, and of course, extreme mayhem.
The festivities kicked-off in the morning with a Yellow Carpet event to welcome celebrities and VIPs, including Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and host Mario Lopez. The ribbon cutting ceremony began with a rendition of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” but quickly escalated when Gru and his minions “crashed” the event. Everyone on-stage gathered to set off Gru’s detonator device together, which started a chain reaction. The ribbon sparkled and exploded into a jaw-dropping spectacle – balloons popped, confetti dropped and fireworks erupted to blanket everyone in brilliant Minion yellow. Excitement peaked as everyone lined up to ride the new attraction.
